John Kerry and Harry Reid should step down

I am not sure if anyone heard what Senator John Kerry recently said on the Bill Maher Show that, "I could have gone to 1600 Pennsylvania and could have killed the real bird with one stone". So John Kerry wants to go to the White House, and kill the President. That is called sedition in my book, and he should be punished or at least apologize.

Also, if you haven't heard, Senator Harry Reid did not divulge to the ethics committee the sale of his residential real estate deal in Las Vegas back in 2001. However, three years later, after he had already received $400,000.00 in 2001 from the Brown Company he got an additional $1.1 MILLION DOLLARS in 2004 for that land that he no longer owned!

The deal allowed Reid to transfer ownership, legal liability and some tax consequences to Brown’s company without public knowledge, but still collect a seven-figure payoff nearly three years later.

Senate ethics rules require lawmakers to disclose on their annual ethics report all transactions involving investment properties, regardless of profit or loss, and to report any ownership stake in companies.

So do the rules only apply to Republicans: is there a Double Standard?

Gee... I wonder?

MIKES AMERICA VIEW ON REID

"do the rules only apply to Republicans: is there a Double Standard?"

Duh!

And how much coverage did this story get? If it was Denny Hastert it would be the top story 24/7 for a week.

Have you seen this chart from the LA TImes that shows how every male member of Reid's family has gotten rich by lobbying their father?

I feel that our society is degenrating because of the Liberal Bias Mike, and I see no end to it.

Even when the Republicans beat the Democrats in November... There will be hell to pay, and the Bias will NEVER end.

Well let's hope we beat them in November... But you're right, even if we do, they won't get the message.

They have near monopoloy control over Academia and Hollywood, both of which are prime pathways for cultural transmission of thoughts and ideas.

They used to have total monopoly control over the news media too, but that is slowly changing.

I went to a job interview in Atlanta years ago and after meeting everyone in this large firm I asked the personnel director how many Republicans there were in the company. She didn't know of a single one. Needless to say i didn't take the job.

I would not take that job either Mike, because it would probably create a hazordous work environment.

I am not very PC about talking about the Democrats like The Murderer Teddy Kennedy, the Molester's Gerry Studds and Mel Reynolds, or the "Oral Office" President Bill Clinton.

BTW, I am going to try and reach out to Rep. Shays, and ask if he needs any more help slamming Democrats.

Michael,

In addition to Reid and Kerry, William Jefferson should step down as well. Funny how his accepting a $100,000 bribe and the FBI finding $90,000 of it in his freezer has been swept under the carpet and, essentially, ignored by the liberal msm (pardon the redundancy) And, to top it all off, this guy could very well get re-elected in November. Unbelievable! And, like you asked in your post, "do the rules only apply to Republicans?" Yes, there does appear to be a double standard.

MRC, I am all for investigation into Reid's financial dealings. If he did anything illegal he should be removed.

However, Speaker Hastert has a land deal that reaped him $1.8 million that is also under question. Last week it was found that Senator Allen failed to disclose his full stock option holdings and conflicts of interest with firms he has helped get contracts. He made $250,000 from one of the firms' stock that he did not disclose. Curt Weldon (R-PA) is now being investigated by the FBI for giving contracts to his daughter.

I think all members of Congress, the White House, and government in general should be fully investigated if there is reason to believe they are violating laws or rules.

I am assuming you want to open an investigation of Reid's transactions - that is fine with me. Are you willing to open investigations of Hastert and Allen?

Thank you for visiting Kevinva.

Rob, Speaker Hastert actually OWNED the land when he sold it, and he didn't hide his dealings from the ethics committee.

I don't think you want to get started on Curts contract with his daughter, because Harry Reid has funneled MILLIONS OF DOLLARS to his kids.

Like I said, I have no problem with forcing Reid (or any other Dems) out if he committed any crimes. The question is are you willing to call for investigations of Republicans who are accused of wrong-doing?

To my knowledge (and I may be wrong on this), Hastert has not gone before the House Ethics Committee. But there are serious questions about the real estate transaction. He did not disclose his interest in the Illinois trust that actually owns the land - it is not owned by Hastert and his wife. You are incorrect in thinking that he owned the land directly.

FYI, Reid hasn't gone before the Senate Ethics Committee, so by definition, he has not hidden anything from the Committee.

FYI, MRC, I have posted up links and discussion about the Debt, foreign ownership of U.S. Debt, GDP growth, government spending, and the budget deficit over on my blog.

If you want to continue the discussion on those subjects you are always welcome.

I know you are a Panthers fan. We don't talk Panthers football, but if you want to ever read about the Bears or Redskins come by.

I am willing for anyone who breaks the law to be investigated regardless of their political association, because no one should be above the law.

As for CBS news coverage of the Hastert business deal is like a Liberal trying to go to Fox News for fair and balanced news coverage. It is all about the source of the information you derrive your deiscussion on.

You could also throw in Governor Sonny Purdue (R-GA) into the mix as well for "Shady" business deals, or Senator Bill Frist for selling stocks (Frist actually met with the Ethics Committee first though, but Liberals still threw him under the bus).

How dare someone try and make money in our Free Market Society!!!

One thing that you have avoided is Senator Kerry saying on National TV that he wants to go to the White House and KILL the President. I am not sure about you, but I would like to see the Secret Service respond to that.

As for Hastert, if you sign up at the Chicago Tribune (right-leaning paper) you will see articles that the tell the same story and facts. The Wall Street Journal also had a story about Hastert's land deal. The land is owned through a trust which Hastert did not reveal to the public.

It is easy enough to check whether Hastert owned the land as you claim, or if it was owned through a trust and hidden from public scrutiny as has been reported.

As for Kerry, I am willing to say he is completely wrong - but I have no idea what he was commenting on, or the context in which he said what he said. If he was referring to the President, yeah it is wrong. If he was referring to something else had he been elected President then it may have been appropriate. I did not see his appearance on Maher's show and cannot tell based on the one line quote you provide.

I really don't understand your quote about making money in the free market society - I am certainly not questioning whether capitalism is a sound system. I am strictly discussing questionable actions that may have broken House/Senate rules and/or laws.

UGH! Doesn't that moonbat have a life?

Not that I am aware of.
